Service Description
Learn how to make a wooden ballpoint pen! No lathe experience necessary! Choose from a variety of woods that you will cut, drill, glue, and turn, all on the lathe. Learn how to use roughing gouges, spindle gouges, and carbide tools to shape the wood. At the end, assemble the pieces with gold, silver, or copper hardware. Go home with a functioning pen and instructions on how to change the ink. This is a beginning class, but if you are an advanced student, you can join and go at a faster pace, or choose a more difficult pen style such as a rollerball or fountain pen for an extra fee. If there's time, you may make more than one pen, for an extra fee of the cost of the kit. Ballpoint kits are about $7 and rollerball/fountain pen kits are around $20. All tools, materials, and safety equipment are provided. Please wear close-toed shoes. A bandana is recommended. It's also recommended to wear a shirt with a neckline that goes all the way up to your neck, as wood chips will be flying. Class is for ages 8 and up. If the participant is under 16, a guardian is required to stay in the classroom. Pay what you can between $40-$80. Suggest fee is $80. I take payment in-person through Venmo, Paypal, Cashapp, Zelle, cash, or check. Extra tips are appreciated but not necessary.
